Abstract
Purpose : The optical phenomena following SMILE surgery were analyzed theoretically. The change of corrected visual acuity according to lenticule ablation amount was investigated.

Methods : Changes in focal length and aberration according to the amount of cut in SMILE surgery were analyzed using ray tracing based on Listing¡¯s reduced eye.

Results : Corrected visual acuity was improved when the amount of cut in the surgical site was increased. However, as the corrected visual acuity increased, the difference in curvature between the surgical site and the non-surgical area increased, resulting in an increase in spherical aberration.

Conclusion : As the nearsightedness increases, the difference between the surgical site and the external curvature increases, so the aberration increases. According to the aberration analysis results, it was confirmed that the increase in aberration after surgery is an optical phenomenon that occurs during surgery. In order to theoretically analyze the causes of halos and glare after surgery, it is judged that follow-up studies using various surgical cases are needed.
